PC: Dissassemble Asus S101 netbook to upgrade SSD hard drive and memory

Date: September 2012

Problem:

This nice lightweight sub-notebook computer came with only 16GB of Solid State Disk space, and 1GB of RAM. For those who want to upgrade the hard disk and RAM, it is possible. Windows 7 and Windows 8 also can run on this model, although Windows 8 requires less memory and is slightly faster. I read that Mac OS X is also possible, but I have no tried it.

Solution:

The Asus S101 notebook computer supports up to 2GB of DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM, unofficially. Officially it supports only 1GB of RAM, if you installed a 2GB module, you need to get into the BIOS and reset the BIOS to get the machine to recognize the extra 1GB.

The SSD can be much bigger, even 256GB if you can find such capacity in mini PCI-express, 70mm length, such as the RunCore Pro 70mm SATA Mini PCI-e SSD.
